We could all do with saving some pennies this National Smile Month, so here are some tips to cut your oral health costs and reduce the need for expensive treatments:
- Try cheaper toothpastes which have the minimum Fluoride content (see the document to the right)
- Make sure you’re only putting a pea sized blob on the toothbrush – we don’t need more than that! Under 3s only need a smear of toothpaste on there.
- Drink tap water – it’s free and tooth friendly!
- Check the NHS website to see if you qualify for free NHS dental services.
- Attend regular dental appointments to reduce the need for these treatments, too.
- Buy toothbrushes and toothpaste in bulk for the household.
- Turn off the tap during brushing. Not only does it dramatically cut water waste, but in turn, it will save you money.
- Speak to your dentist about cheaper toothpaste, mouthwash and interdental brushes you could switch to.
The key to good oral health is…
Brush teeth for two minutes, last thing at night and one other time during the day, with a fluoride toothpaste
Clean between your teeth every day
Keep sugary food and drink to mealtimes (or cut down how much and how often you have sugary foods and drinks)
Visit a dentist regularly
